The Association of Indian Neurologists in America is deeply offended by the views expressed by Prof. Amy Wax, Law Professor at University of Pennsylvania. During a recent news interview on April 8th 2022, she disparaged physicians of Indian origin at University of Pennsylvania for speaking up about racism in this country. She went on to insult India and its rich cultural heritage using abominable words.

India’s enviable education system has produced brilliant scientists, physicians, and computer engineers who have enriched healthcare, education and the high-tech industry in the United States and across the world. Physicians of Indian origin are a major segment of the healthcare workforce in the US.

We call upon the University of Pennsylvania to take appropriate action against Dr. Wax. We also urge the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Neurology to take formally denounce Dr. Wax and take strong action to counter racist attitudes against physicians of Indian origin.

    Prakash Kotagal, M.D.
President, Association of Indian Neurologists in America
